I’d been here before so I knew the gardens were exquisite, the hotel is quiet, being set back from the road, and the breakfast is superb. "Brief 1night stay, very pleasant and helpful staff - room was comfortable & warm. Good quality bathroom and newish decor. Comfortable bed & couch in adjoining lounge area. Breakfast was better than expected, good choices and made to order. (We had purchased breakfast included). Restaurant was good quality, decent prices too. (And was offered a discount because of stay) Would stay again! "

"We were really disappointed on arrival as the hotel was covered in scaffolding and the entrance looked much more like a 1970s multi-storey carpark than a 4* hotel. The stairs (the lift was out of order), reception area and room were very dated. The soundproofing in the bathroom was non-existent (my wife could hear everything next door). Having said that the beds were comfortable, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was ok."
