Palancar Beach

Situated along the coast of Cozumel, an island renowned for its diving, snorkelling and laidback vibe, Palancar Beach rarely disappoints. Ticking all the essential Caribbean boxes – clear waters, swaying palms and glinting tropical marine life – the beach is also located adjacent to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef system, where exciting water-based activities abound.

One of the major attractions of Palancar Beach is that it is much quieter than its coastal neighbours. At times, the beach can feel almost private, making it a great spot to swing lazily in a comfy hammock or sip a freshly made margarita from one of the beachside bars.

The food here is just as excellent as the cocktails, so take the time to try one of the local seafood specialities. Ceviche is a fresh seafood dish marinated in citrus juice and chili, while the filete al mojo de ajo is a simple dish of grilled fish and garlic.

When you've had your fill of food and drink and are starting to feel the need for some physical activity, there are a wealth of water sports on offer along the coast and the barrier reef. Sign up for an organised diving trip or grab some snorkelling gear and do your own thing. Alternatively, you could try your hand at one of the activities offered along the beach, like sea kayaking or paragliding.

Palancar Beach is a 20-minute drive along the coastal road from San Miguel. The best way to get here is to rent a car or motorbike, or simply grab a taxi.
