Condado Beach and its promenade has something for everyone: swimming and surfing, relaxing in the sun, fine-dining or world class shopping, This oceanfront neighborhood is located in the heart of San Juan’s upmarket Condado district. The area is home to hotels of all budgets and is fairly central, making it a great place to base yourself while in San Juan.
Escape from the city for a few hours or spend the entire day at this beach which attracts both locals and tourists. Condado beach is a great place for swimming and surfing, however strong tides and currents make it better for experienced swimmers than young children. Surfboards can be rented in the area, and wetsuits are rarely required in the warm waters of Puerto Rico. You can also rent a chair and umbrella from a beach vendor to escape the heat as you relax on the sand with a book.
Avenida Ashford (Ashford Avenue) runs along the beachfront and offers the a great variety of food, drinks and shopping. Enjoy a Pina Colada, local spirits or try traditional Puerto Rican food at one of the strip’s upmarket bars and restaurants.
For those wanting a more affordable dining experience and a little more adventure, there are a number of street vendors selling food such as empanadas (fried pastries with fillings) along the beach. Enjoy some retail therapy as you shop along the avenue. The street is home to some of the world’s best-known fashion boutiques, including Gucci, Ferragamo and Cartier.
Condado Beach is located in central San Juan area and can be easily reached on foot from many downtown hotels. If you choose to drive, parking is available for a fee at many hotels, however street parking is limited. Condado Beach can be visited every day, and the shops and restaurants are open during normal business hours.
