Coastal Georgia hotel rooms a the Independent

"The staff: front desk and housekeeping was professional and helpful. The rooms are tidy, clean and spacious with large plush bedding for a great night's sleep. The bathroom was tidy with good plumbing; this room is as important as the sleeping area. The hotel is centrally located with many eateries, shopping options and the surrounding areas; however, transportation is required."

"My husband and I have traveled to Savannah many times and decided to give this hotel a try since it’s close to many of our favorite spots. We realized quickly upon checking in that we had made a mistake. While the lobby was beautiful, the room left much to be desired. It looked somewhat bare and run down and the floor was covered in oatmeal cookies crumbs that the guests before us had enjoyed and were never swept. We returned to the front desk where they were very apologetic and offered us free breakfast the next morning, two free drinks and a different room. We gladly excepted the offer and moved to our new room! At first glance, this room looked much better. After dinner, we get ready for bed and the real fun began. As mentioned in other reviews, which I read in the middle night while I couldn’t sleep, the air conditioner made a clicking sound every 90 seconds. This, along with the extremely uncomfortable bed, made for a VERY long night. After many long hours, I decided to get up and get ready for the day. After entering the bathroom and closing the door, I found feces smeared on the back of the bathroom door. By this point, I had enough and my husband went to chat with management. While they were very nice and offered a refund for the rest of the time we were supposed to be there, I have never been as disappointed in a hotel. Think twice before booking. Savannah is such an amazing city with so many wonderful places to stay. I highly recommend NOT staying at the De Soto! "

"The staff at checkin were awesome - very friendly and helpful. The happy hour bar tender was great, the Broken Keel Restaurant had a very good breakfas and valet service was excellent! The room was very clean and looked out over the Savannah River. We could not be happier with our stay. We will definitely return. "

"This hotel is ideally located to visit the many things to see in historic Savannah. We cant say enough great things about the friendly staff at the Staybridge. They made our trip memorable. Special kudos to Nevada, Teresa and Anita. They were so helpful during our 5 night stay. We always stay at Staybridge when we are visiting a major city. The Savannah staff was the best of any of our previous stays."

"Very nice friendly and accommodating staff. The hotel is about a half a mile from the City Marketplace and the river once you find your way, but right around the hotel nowhere to eat or drink and the hotel has very little choice of food for either breakfast or dinner. Dining became a chore rather than something to enjoy. The room also isn’t very bright for a new building and the heat very noisy. Beds were very comfortable and room clean. "
