Chiba University

As one of Japan’s most prominent universities, this educational institute has a heavy international presence. Mingle with staff and students in the cafeterias.

Chiba University is an international educational complex that welcomes foreign exchange students and visitors. It is one of the region’s most prominent attractions. Tree-lined avenues and glass-fronted buildings make up much of its serene and picturesque central campus in the heart of Chiba. Go for a quiet stroll between the buildings to get a sense of student life in this lively hub of academia.

Wander around the impressive University Library at the heart of the main campus. Watch a game in the sports area that marks the northern end of the campus, where you’ll find an athletic track, a gymnasium and a field for soccer and rugby. Just south of the sports section are buildings containing the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Education and the General Studies Complex.

Take a break with coffee and snacks in one of the three cafeterias and watch students go by. These sites provide buffets serving a range of noodle dishes and rice bowls. Visit the Life Center for the shops and supermarkets stocking essential supplies for the students. It has pastries, stationery and groceries, among other items.

The majority of subjects are taught in this main campus. Note that specialized courses, including pharmaceutical sciences and horticulture, are led in the Inohana Campus, the Kashiwano-ha Campus and the gorgeous hilltop Matsudo Campus.

As you stroll through the campus, meet some of the university’s more than 11,000 undergraduate students. Thousands more are studying further education. The institution was inaugurated in 1949 and is considered one of the top universities in the country.

Find Chiba University a little north of the center of the city. Take the Sobu Line to the Nishi-Chiba station, the Keisei-Chiba Line to the Midoridai Station or the Chiba Monorail to the Tendai Station. Stay in this district for leafy attractions such as Matsunami Park, Nishinobuto Park and Anagawa Central Park.
