Drive a few minutes outside of Acapulco and surround yourself with nature at this lush tropical garden in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of city life at Jardin Botanico de Acapulco (Acapulco Botanical Garden). Relax in a tropical oasis in the Southern Sierra Madre Mountains. Enjoy pleasant scenery as you learn about the area’s plant and animal life.

Find a variety of native plants in the garden. Explore a network of meticulously maintained paths that snake through palms, flowering and fruit trees, ferns and more. Note the unique variety of hardwood trees, including the severely endangered Peltogyne Mexicana, fittingly nicknamed purpleheart for its richly colored and highly attractive heartwood.

Walk among towering granite boulders and past gently babbling brooks. You’ll find many places to rest. Stop to gaze around and appreciate your surroundings in a shady enclave or make use of one of the many benches throughout the garden.

Watch for the animals residing in Acapulco Botanical Garden. Hear and see birds ranging from colorful parrots to muted pheasants. Spot iguanas, lizards and snakes slithering in the underbrush. If you’re lucky, you might see an opossum or a raccoon.

Although it feels a world away, Acapulco Botanical Garden is just a 10-minute drive from Acapulco. Conveniently transition back and forth between the serene garden and the popular beaches in the city’s touristy Golden Zone.

Note that because of its mountainous environment, Acapulco Botanical Garden has a tropical climate that is a bit different from surrounding Acapulco. Its rainy season is during the summer. Expect warm temperatures and humid conditions throughout the year when you plan what to wear.

The garden has no restaurants or refreshment stands. Bring your own drink and a snack to enjoy as you explore, but otherwise stroll to Acapulco itself for a full meal.

Visit the Acapulco Botanical Garden any day between dawn and dusk. There is an admission fee which you pay at the entry gate.
