"The location was great, easy 5 min walk to subway and bus. Only 15 mins to market and shopping. The room was comfortable and a good size for Japanese standards. It is nice to have a kitchenette and there was free water. We only received 1 towel each and had to ask for extra towels which was not a problem. I asked for an extra pillow and they did not have any, that is a first and very unfortunate since it made my sleeping less comfortable."

"This was a small (typical of Japan) but cozy place. It had everything that we needed (e.g., fridge, ac, oven, microwave, washer) and we enjoyed our 4-nights stay. The weekend price was a bit higher than what I expected and there was no black tea. Otherwise, everything was great. "

"I loved this hotel. I didnt have a single problem with this property. I accidentally showed up to check in an hour late and they didnt give me an issue about it. Its in a great location and is close to public transportation. The room was clean, spacious and had everything you could need in a hotel room. Very happy with this pick"

"Great find!! I'm astounded what you get for your money. Huge room, by japanese standards, great amenities, friendly, helpful staff with good English. I hugely recommend this place, especially if you are staying more than a few days in Kyoto. Also well located, within walking distance of Gion and many shops across the river. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance, cheap or otherwise. Best place we have stayed in Japan so far. "

"Run down, moldy and extremely dusty Machiya! Do not stay here for your own health, we went straight to bed without checking the place as we checked in at 6pm and we were tired but we kept waking up choking and coughing, we looked arond and saw the black mold in the black room and the dust on all the beams. Hotels . Com should not be advertising this hotel and the pictures are YEARS out of date. If you stay here you will get ill, be aware."

"Incredible property. Perfect for larger groups (mine had 6). You get the whole building to yourself and it’s separated by bathroom (which has a private Onsen), bed rooms, and living room. There were some minor issues but the host was very communicative and quick to fix such as a toilet not flushing or soap dispensers being empty. Overall fantastic stay"

When I told him I wanted to stay in a place with traditional Japanese style, he suggested this one. "This was a spacious, comfortable and unique property in a good location. It was immaculately clean. There is a Lawson store next door and a number of good restaurants nearby. It is in walking distance to the Heian Shrine and Nanzenji Temple. Bus stops are just outside and subway stations are very close. The hotel is on a busy street, but the room is well insulated and very quiet. It has a washing machine that is supposed to also function as a dryer, but we didn’t have much luck with the dryer...
