Namsan Botanical Garden showing a garden

This serene corner of Namsan Park displays an abundance of tree and plant species native to Korea in a series of themed gardens.

Namsan Botanical Garden is a showcase of colorful and interesting vegetation on the southern slopes of Mt. Namsan. The garden features a selection of the herbs, flowers, medicinal plants and trees commonly found in Korea. Visit Namsan Botanical Garden to allow your senses to run wild and find an ideal peaceful antidote to Seoul’s teeming downtown district.

The garden has over 100,000 plants, representing nearly 270 species, split between trees and flowering plants. Among the 13 themed areas are a herbarium, orchards, shrubs and a wildflower exhibition. Stroll along paved trails winding through the garden, alongside the exhibits and around an ornamental pond.

One of the garden’s most striking areas is its forest of pine trees, introducing visitors to the many different pines that exist in Korea. Marvel at the vivid colors of cherry blossom trees, roses and royal azaleas. Spot wildlife such as butterflies, fireflies and woodpeckers. The designated children’s forest strives to educate younger visitors about the ecosystem.

Take a break from exploring with a visit to the café, where you can purchase light meals, snacks and refreshments. The outdoor seating area overlooks a pristine lawn. Rest lazily beneath the shade of a pavilion.

Trails lead from the garden to other areas of Namsan Park and Mt. Namsan. Follow the Southern Namsan Circuit to the 774-foot-tall (236-meter) N Seoul Tower. The tower’s observation deck presents exquisite city views, especially at sunset. From here it’s possible to catch the Namsan Cable Car down the north side of the mountain.

Get here by riding a bus to the Hyatt Hotel stop and then crossing a footbridge to the garden. The closest metro station is Hangangjin, which is on the Seoul Subway Line 6. On-site parking is available for a fee.

Namsan Botanical Garden has free admission. Visit in spring to see the flowers in full bloom and in fall to admire the brilliant colors of the foliage.
