Tuxtla’s popular green lung has an adventure playground, exercise stations and pleasant walking trails that skirt ponds and tree-shaded lawns.

Find relaxation, recreation and history at Joyyo Mayu Park (Parque Joyyo Mayu), one of the city’s best outdoor spaces. This popular park welcomes tourists and locals, who come to exercise and enjoy picnics surrounded by a splendid natural landscape. After several years of neglect, Joyyo Mayu Park underwent an extensive makeover and reopened in 2017.

Get to know the park by strolling along its paved trails that wind around a large lake, small ponds, grassy lawns and wooded areas. Admire the abundance of tree species, including ceiba, mango and palm. Spot colorful azaleas, among other plants that flourish here. The environment provides a habitat for several bird species. Gaze into the ponds to see fish swimming.

On weekends the park is a favorite location for picnics. Bring your own food and join the families and groups of friends that spread across the lawns. You can also purchase fruit juices, such as papaya, tamarind and watermelon, from vendors inside the park.

For active visitors, the park has designated biking and running lanes. Rent bikes on site. Bright park lights allow access to both lanes after sunset. Bring children to the play area complete with a climbing frame, slides and tunnels.

Test your agility on the Parque Aéreo de Aventuras. This adventure park has 14 platforms, the highest of which is 43 feet (13 meters), connected by a combination of ropes and wooden bridges. The final section of the course incorporates a short zip line. Pay a fee to enter the adventure park. Height restrictions apply.

The park is located about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) west of Plaza Civica, in the city center of Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Get here by catching a public bus or taking an inexpensive taxi. The Sabinal River forms a natural border between the park and Caña Hueca Park, home to soccer fields and tennis and basketball courts.

Joyyo Mayu Park is open daily starting early in the morning.
