There were some areas that seemed a little unsafe, but this is personal perspective. The panhandlers that approached us were very respectful. The overall surroundings of Gallup are beautiful and we expect to get to know Gallup better over time.

Gallup has really changed over the last ten years but in the best way possible. Keeps getting more tourist friendly and offering more options for food and shopping.

There's a really cool city park, Red Rock park. Lots of tall red cliffs, trails and camping. Nice place for a picnic too.

The town seems to be very run down and very high homeless population and very unsafe is my over all sensation.

Excellent, fresh food at Mediterranean Restaurant in town, called the Oasis, Great salads.
"Very dated hotel, like late 70s. Was a little hesitant when we drove up but the owner was really nice. Room was old but the mattress felt new and the pillows were comfy. Bathroom was very clean, towels fresh, and the water pressure was fantastic! I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Did not hear the train but probably because we were so tired. Skipped breakfast and went to bakery down the street to try it out."
"Awesome atmosphere, history, and some of the most incredible and friendly customer service from front desk staff! They always made my stay super easy and convenient. My only concern is the lack of area to let dogs go potty. There's only one grassy spot around the whole premises and it's got a sign for no dogs on the grass. I believe they're still undergoing more renovations, so for a dog friendly hotel, I hope their final status will have better areas to accommodate the pets going to the bathroom."
