Children's Museum of Denver

Children\'s Museum of Denver showing interior views as well as a family

This is the museum that makes learning fun – a perfect day out for children and parents alike.

The Children’s Museum of Denver is a top destination for families with young children. The whole attraction is designed around fun interactive exhibits that teach young visitors about everything from science and technology to nutrition and medicine. The aim is to learn through play. No wonder this museum has been hugely popular ever since it opened in 1973.

There are 15 different exhibits to explore. Children can climb into a real fire engine, dressed up in replica uniforms, in “Fire Station No. 1”, and imagine themselves on a mission to save the day. They will learn all about fire fighters and fire prevention.

Budding engineers will love “3, 2, 1… Blast Off!” This is the chance to build and launch a rocket, as well as learn about aerodynamics with the wonderfully powerful wind tunnel. Don’t miss “Kinetics!”, where children can see the basic laws of physics in action, demonstrated by a large-scale marble run which took one and a half years to design and build.

There are exhibits perfect for animal-lovers too. The “Big Backyard” allows children to see the world through the eyes of ants and birds. They can dress up in costumes and let their imagination run wild as they explore the giant ant tunnels and huge bird nests. “Ready Vet Go!” gets them to don a vet’s coat and stethoscope to learn all about animal care and grooming. This exhibit is complete with real animal x-ray pictures, an examination table and grooming equipment.

The children’s own health and well-being is the focus of “My Market”, a child-sized supermarket and kitchen, where they will learn about food choices and healthy cooking. They can then burn off their energy at “Spotlights”, an interactive dance floor with coloured lights that encourages creative movement.

Whilst all activities are geared towards young children, the rest of the family are actively encouraged to get involved. This is the perfect place to join your kids in rediscovering wonder and imagination.

The museum is located in Central Platte Valley, just a short car journey from downtown Denver. Free parking is available on site.
