Reserve your seat for a concert performance inside a transparent music venue. The intriguing structure is part of a gorgeous park that used to be a quarry.

The Wire Opera House (Ópera de Arame) is situated in the middle of an attractive park and surrounded by lakes, waterfalls and trees. One of the city's most popular cultural venues, the opera house is a circular structure made of wire-like steel tubing, hence its name. The building is enclosed with transparent panels and crowned with a transparent ceiling. Inside, there is seating for approximately 2,400 spectators. The venue sits in the crater of a disused quarry and was inaugurated in 1992. Construction took just 75 days.

Throughout the year, the Wire Opera House hosts musical concerts that span several genres, including pop, rock and classical music. Some of the international stars to have performed on its stage are David Bowie, Paul McCartney and the Spanish tenor José Carreras. During your stay, check local listings in newspapers or the website of the Cultural Foundation of Curitiba to see what's on at the venue. Even if there isn’t a performance scheduled while you are in Curitiba, visit the building to marvel at its intriguing design.

Find the Wire Opera House in the middle of the Parque das Pedreiras. To reach the structure, walk across the footbridge, also made of steel tubes, that spans a man-made lake. Before taking your seat, go for a stroll along the raised walkway that encircles the building. Spot carp in the lake and appreciate the forest vegetation and waterfall.

The park also encompasses the Paulo Leminski Cultural Center, a vast open-air space with a stage and the capacity for thousands of spectators.

You can visit the Wire Opera House every day except Mondays. Situated in the Pilarzinho neighborhood, close to Tangua Park, the cultural venue is about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) north of the city center. Come by taxi, car or bus. The tourist bus service that stops at the city’s most popular attractions, Linha Turismo, has a station here. There are free parking spaces in the park’s grounds.
