Explore the life and work of one of America’s most imaginative creators at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, California. From Mickey Mouse to Mary Poppins, Walt Disney is responsible for bringing to life some of the most iconic characters to ever hit the silver screen.
The museum is located in a historic brick building in the scenic Presidio neighborhood. Explore Disney’s vision through interactive galleries featuring movies, music and more. Permanent exhibits trace Disney’s life and work through his early childhood to his meteoric rise to fame. Look for Disney’s initial concept model of Disneyland. Stretching 13 feet (4 meters) across, this massive model is detailed down to the last meticulously painted umbrella. Enjoy a constant rotation of special exhibits, such as one exploring the friendship between Disney and Spanish Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
After you’ve viewed all the exhibits, head to the Fantasia-themed movie theater. Here, watch a screening of classic Disney films six days a week.
Purchase a souvenir from your trip at the Gift Shop located at the front of the museum. Choose anything from a special book to a doll of the original Mickey Mouse.
Enjoy a taste of California at the Museum Café, which features ingredients from local purveyors. Take advantage of the scenic outdoor seating area overlooking the Presidio’s expansive green lawn.
Purchase tickets online or at the Museum Ticket Desk. You can visit the Gift Shop and Museum Café without purchasing a ticket.
If you come by car, pay to park at the Presidio. The largest and most convenient area is the Main Post lot, located directly in front of the museum. The area is also easily accessible by public transportation or bicycle. The museum is open every day except Tuesdays and major holidays.
The Walt Disney Family Museum is located at 104 Montgomery Street. Confusingly, San Francisco has two Montgomery Streets. Make sure you’re heading to the street in the Presidio, not in the financial district.
