Ventura Pier

Ventura Pier showing a sunset, landscape views and general coastal views

Enjoy seafood or tacos at the foot of this pier and wander along its old wooden planks for panoramic views of the Channel Islands.

A popular spot among fishermen and vacationers, Ventura Pier is an iconic part of the town’s landscape. The charming pier has stood on this site since 1872 and remains an integral part of the local culture. Capture photos of the scenic Pierpont Bay and enjoy the lively atmosphere along this historic wooden structure.

Part of the pier’s charm is the rickety, wooden appearance of its surface, which is supported by wooden pilings. Stroll along the pleasant structure at sunset to see the darkening shades of the sky take hold. The United States flag is hoisted proudly at the end of the pier. Bring clothing layers for the windy conditions in winter.

Pack a picnic to have on one of the benches along the platform with a backdrop of the sparkling blue ocean and the Channel Islands. Look back on Ventura and pick out your favorite landmarks along the coastline, such as San Buenaventura State Beach and Marina Park. Learn about the history of the pier and the region from its informative plaques.

Rent bikes, body boards and beach chairs from the buildings at the beginning of the pier. Find souvenir shops, bathroom facilities and several restaurants with outdoor seating. See fishermen awaiting their catch on the flanks of this long wooden structure.

Step down onto the sand of Ventura Pier Beach, which is the principal bay area in the town. Take advantage of the year-round sunny weather for sunbathing and swimming. A little inland is the paved Ventura Promenade, which leads to several parks and offers stunning ocean and beach views.

Ventura Pier is near Downtown Ventura at the western end of town. Ride a bus to one of the stops at the back of the bay or take the Amtrak train to Ventura Station. Walk southeast from the station for less than 15 minutes to reach the pier. Nearby attractions include the Surfers’ Point Park, the Jim Hall Track Time go-kart complex and the Seaside Wilderness Park.
