What was once an old quarry is now an attractive park where you can spot wildlife, row across a lake, jog, cycle and gaze at a waterfall.

Tangua Park is an attractive recreational space with lakes, native woods, a cycling path, ponds and a waterfall. Formerly an old quarry, the 57-acre (23-hectare) site was regenerated in 1996 to provide an urban escape. Come here to exercise, admire the scenery or just for some peace and quiet.

Enter through the park’s main entrance to find pathways in the lower part of the park that are bordered by flowerbeds. If you want to do something a little more active, cycle or jog along the bike paths and jogging track or climb aboard a rowing boat for a trip across a lake. Tangua Park has two lakes that are connected by a 148-foot (45-meter) tunnel, which has been cut through a solid walk of rock.

Pass through the lake’s opening by following the raised wooden walkway that takes you to an observation platform. From here, enjoy an excellent view of a man-made waterfall. There’s another good viewpoint from the Belvedere, a building that sits directly above the cascade. This three-story structure also has a bistro, restrooms and souvenir shop.

Sit by one of the ponds and watch the gentle sprays from the fountains. Make your way over to the Poty Lozzarotto in the upper part of the park and find a French-style garden. This garden is named after local ceramist and muralist Napoleon Potyguara Lozzarotto and features a gazebo, reflecting pool and colorful flowerbeds.

Stroll through the wooded areas, under branquilho, maritime pine and araucaria trees. Among the wildlife species you may see in the park environs are armadillo, skunk, turkey and opossum.

Located in the Pilarzinho neighborhood in north Curitiba, Tangua Park is about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) from the city center. Several bus lines serve the area, including Linha Turismo, the special tourist bus that travels to Curitiba's main attractions. There is also free parking inside the park’s grounds. Tangua Park is open 24 hours a day and admission is free.
