Experience the sights, sounds, aromas and tastes of the home of Singapore's Indian community.

The city's large population of Indian origin is concentrated to the east of the Singapore River in the neighbourhood around Serangoon Road. Little India's traditional charm has been retained despite its popularity with tourists, and it remains a busy market district. Street hawkers line the sides of the streets, and the many alleys offer plenty of interesting diversions for an afternoon stroll. Restaurants offering aromatic curries abound, while you can also discover the heritage of the people at the numerous landmarks in the area.Walking through Little India is an enjoyable experience in itself: it's usually busy, and the combination of bright, multi-coloured floral displays on the front of the traditionally designed buildings is very agreeable. Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is the most prominent of the many temples in the area – you can remove your shoes and take a tranquil pause from the hustle and bustle inside this beautiful place of worship.Tekka Market is the buzzing hub of the neighbourhood, and is usually packed. It's worth the squeeze to soak up the colour and the many different scents floating through the air. Souvenirs, wonderful blends of spices, and traditional Indian food are in plentiful supply.Dhals and curries, bahjis and aloos can all be sampled from a range of restaurants or street stalls in Little India. A local treat is the Singapore version of chai tea, known as tarik. Be careful if your taste buds are delicate, as the food is prepared in the Indian fashion with quite a lot of spice – don't be shy about asking for a milder version if that's what you prefer!Close to the city's heart, Little India is located to the east of the Singapore River. There is a small amount of free parking, but lots of pay parking available. Little India MRT station is nearby, and you can also come here on foot from the city centre. The area can be visited whenever you please and there is no entry fee.

Although one of the youngest country to exist #Singapore , under the stern leadeeship of Lee Kuan Yew has successfully turn itself into a global giant by capitalizing its strategic position as an important tradehub in South East Asia. Its rapid development policy has turn the tiny island nation's landscape into that of sprawling urban jungle and tall skyscrappers. But even with the rapid modernization the charm of old heritage Singapore can still be subtly around the city, where old preserved heritage building seamlessly blend in the urban jungle landscape.

One of the lesser known area where old heritage houses are still preserved is the emerald hill housings near somerset area. Taking a walk in these old streets while being surrounded by the view of skyscrappers around can make an interesting one of a kind experience on its own so you should definitely give it a try :)
