We were shocked to see no bar or restaurant open at this hotel. Very limited staff. Room curtains ripped. Apparently they have no drinks licence holder at present. Would like to of been made aware of this before booking.

We chose this hotel because of it's location and history. The Lion certainly did not disappoint us! Wonderfully old and worn, thoroughly as we expected, loved it! Room was clean, warm and the beds extremely comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was plentiful and cooked beautifully. Staff very polite and helpful. If I needed to stay over again in the stunning town, I would definitely book again.

room and reception staff were lovely but unfortunately when we went for breakfast there was no staff around to ask for a cooked breakfast, to then be told after we had been sat for upwards of half an hour that the kitchen was closed and they are no longer serving hot food. we were down with plenty of time but due to no staff around it left a bit of a sour taste about the experience. we would visit again and hopefully this doesn't happen to others

It’s a 1600 inn so floors creak and are uneven. It looks a bit tired but is being updated. The staff more than make up for that. They a friendly and very helpful. Though the restaurant was shut but breakfast was excellent. Well worth a stay.

Loved the vintage character of the building parking facility was excellent. Room was spacious and clean. My only negative was the sound of running water all night from behind a boxed in pipe. Being in the top floor in room 323 I Believe there is a storage tank in the attic or similar...Try and avoid this room, as its also hard work on the legs, with 3 flights of stairs. Apart from these few things i loved the place along with my Chihuahua and Yorkshire Terrier.

Could be a really lovely hotel if it had some money spent on a refurb. Lots of antique features in the property but very musty feel to the place. The threadbare carpets in the common areas don’t help - the same in the bedrooms. Very dated dark wood furniture also along with a small tv in my room. WiFi and phone reception was also poor. Old window frames don’t look as though they’ve been cleaned for years. On the plus side, the staff were lovely, the location is excellent being right in the middle of town and the breakfast was really good. Parking a doddle on site. For the price I suppose it’s reasonable to expect some areas that need improvement, it’s just a shame more could not be done to bring the hotel up to a more acceptable standard.

What a lovely stay we had.. the rooms have been updated, so fresh beds duvets pillows and bathrooms… The furnishings and curtains etc, could do with an upgrade, but did not ruin are stay. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were lovely. What an experience to stay in a building with so much history!
