Shiraho Beach is a tranquil and picturesque stretch of white sand surrounded by undulating green hills. It is an idyllic diving spot with its marvelous coral reef and range of colorful, exotic fish. Embark on a leisurely stroll with your kids to view the wonderful scenery.
Let your children clamber over the rocks in search of marine treasures, such as shells and coral fragments. Spot crabs and fish in the shallow water. Rent snorkeling gear from tour operators in the town and admire the range of subaquatic marvels that occupy the clear water here. The village is an important base for the World Wildlife Foundation Coral Research Station.
Dine at the beach restaurant, which specializes in fresh seafood. The beach has a remote setting and tranquil ambiance, with relatively few amenities aside from the restaurant. Enjoy the silence as you work on your tan on a hot, sunny day. Cool off with a quick dip in the water and play ball games with your kids.
Join an exciting snorkeling trip with an operator in the village. Tours last several hours and set off regularly from early morning until early afternoon. Explore the quaint fishing village of Shiraho. Take daytrips to the beautiful islands of Hateruma and Kuroshima for the splendid views.
Note that the beach remains open to the public at all times and has no entrance fee. Pay a fee for a snorkeling or dive tour, which includes wetsuits, life jackets and diving gear.
Shiraho Beach is on the southeastern bump of Ishigaki Island, just east of Maezato. Take the bus from the town of Ishigaki to get here in around 45 minutes or drive to the beach in 20 minutes. Pay to leave your car in the parking lot at the back of the beach. Get around the small town of Shiraho on foot.
