The town of San Roque, located in Cadiz in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar and overlooking the Rock, is an ideal option to enjoy a few days’ rest. Cheap trips to San Roque offer so much to do that it’s difficult to decide where to start: we recommend a walk along Alameda Alfonso XI, a beautiful urban park that also serves as the main square of the town. It dates back to the year 1831 and at its centre, you’ll find a beautiful circular fountain.
Once you’ve taken some pictures for your album, head over to the church of Santa María la Coronada, just a short walk away. This typical temple with a Latin-cross floor plan was built on the old hermitage of San Roque, which gave the town its name.
Although the town's monuments are the main attraction, package deals to San Roque are also an excellent opportunity to enjoy nature. For example, you can visit the estuary of the River Guadiaro and the lagoon of Torreguadiaro, where you’ll find a natural landscape over 85 acres full of reeds and ash trees, among other flora. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars to observe the herons and flamingos.
Pinar del Rey is much larger, a natural area covering over 830 acres. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Spanish Armada chose this area located north of San Roque to plant pines whose wood would be used to build warships. Nowadays it serves as a green lung. The Sierra del Arca range, with 500 acres of low Mediterranean mountains and hills, is another great option for hiking.
We know that you’ll probably be exhausted after all that walking, but it’s worth making one last effort and going up to the Domingo de Mena viewpoint, named after the poet, and take a seat on a bench. From there, you can take in magnificent views of the Rock of Gibraltar, the Bay of Algeciras and North Africa.
Choose our trips to San Roque and let the town take your breath away.
