The hotel itself was lovely with ornate decorations, a comfy bed with lots of pillows, a clean bathroom, and complimentary service to leave your bags before you check in and after you check out if you want to explore the city. The coffee provided at breakfast was good, too. My only complaint is the area directly outside the hotel was dirty and rather noisy but not unexpected considering we were right near Union Square. It’s a great location to stay at if you want to explore all the typical tourist attractions like the Wharf, Chinatown, the Metreon, SFMOMA, and Japantown.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. I twisted my ankle during my trip and they went above and beyond to help me maneuver. Chris and the rest of the concierge staff at the front desk even called CVS and reserved a pair of crutches for me. Housekeeping also took great care of me. And as for the hotel itself, I loved the beautiful art deco style with a modern twist. I wish the restaurant had been open and it had some kind of live music but all in all, Bijou stays true to the boutique hotel experience. I was there for a conference nearby and I would definitely come back.

Overall, the property is a quaint but chic hotel. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the room was exactly as described. The surrounding area is a bit sketchy. Unhoused people often loiter near the entrance of the hotel and play music until the late hours of the night. The hotel is within walking distance to multiple shops and public transport, which is a plus. So, if you’re a heavy sleeper and looking for an affordable place to stay, I would recommend.

I don’t know why, but the hotel always seems to be surrounded by homeless people. Also, the breakfast is very limited – it’s only yogurt, cupcakes, tea/ coffee, and apples with no variation each day. However, the hotel staff are very friendly and nice. Cleaning isn’t done daily, but they will take care of it for you only if you request it.

Loved the hotel and the staff were all very kind. Bummer not having AC but that’s known upfront. In order to stay cool, we had to have the window open and due to the location, there was a ton of street noise all night. Ear plugs are provided at least and we only stayed a night. The room was great and the staff were amazing, so we’d stay again and maybe bring some noise-cancelling headphones

here are hundreds of homeless people around the hotel, even at the entrance and smells pie. They listen to loud music with large speakers all night and day. It’s not even safe to cross the street; it feels very dangerous. The hotel windows are 200 years old, allowing all noises to come through, and the beds feel like they’re from the 1900s—very uncomfortable. The manager is unreachable; I have tried 5-6 times throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening. I left a message with the front desk, but the manager never called me back. I requested to change my room and have not received a response. I also asked to have my TV fixed, but I haven't heard back on that either. This feels like a scam; it’s more like a homeless shelter than a hotel.

Cheap room but for a reason. The rooms had broken aircon so were extremely hot during the night, no lights worked, the safe was locked, the area feels unsafe on an evening and breakfast was poor . Would not stop in this area again
