As is the case with many Barbadian beaches, Accra Beach is known among locals by two different names, the other being Rockley Beach. Situated on the southern coast of the island, this beautiful strand boasts calm, tropical waters and soft, golden sand. For the ultimate in chilling out, rent a sun lounger and umbrella from one of the local merchants and pass the time away under the shade of a palm tree as you read a book, sip on an ice-cold drink and listen to the sound of waves gently lapping against the shoreline. If you want to stretch your legs, make your way over to the surrounding kiosks and peruse the selection of jewellery, clothing and hand-crafted treasures on display.Accra Beach’s southern location makes it an ideal spot for swelling waves and excellent surf. That being said, the water is calm and safe, allowing to you tread out quite far before it becomes too deep. Rest assured that there are lifeguards on hand to keep a watch out for any possible danger. One of the nicest things about this beach is how you get to it: by strolling across the South Coast Boardwalk, an elevated wooden walkway between the ocean and the road which stretches from Accra to Hastings. Kick-start your day with a refreshing jog along this timber path and marvel at the breathtaking ocean vistas laid out in front of you. Quench your thirst or satisfy your rumbling stomach with a quick drink or snack from one of the many cafés dotted along the shore. Quayside Centre, located just across the road, is great option for a spot of lunch, offering an array of fares, all of which are sure to whet your appetite, while Oistins harbour serves up the very best in freshly caught fish. No matter where you end up dining, be sure to return to the beach in the evening to feast your eyes on the stunning red and orange sun as its sets in the sky.Accra Beach is located just 5 kilometres south of central Bridgetown. Taxis and buses are available to bring you back and forth and there is plenty of parking available should you choose to drive.
