"All in all an ok stay, breakfast was great. Room was small but all ok. Staff were friendly and helpful. Main complaint was that no main bar area open, small lounge open and the staircase on our floor smelt or urine which was very off putting on arrival. At a guess I would say this would be down to the amount of dogs in the hotel on high floors "

"The most stunning location possible in big traditional hotel. My room was very cheap and quite small, though I peeped into some other rooms and they would definitely be worth paying a bit more. Lynton is 500 feet above Lynmouth at sea level. The cliff railway and multiple footpaths mean you can visit both. Good range of quality tourist shops, tea shops and restaurants. One bus which takes an hour+ from Barnstaple. Excellent holiday destination. "

"My mother and I had a very enjoyable 3 night stay at the Carlton Hotel, all the staff were very hospitable and could not do enough for us throughout our stay. We spoke to other returning guests whilst we were there and can see why they do so as the hotel was all that we required. I can see why it has such good reviews. The food each night in the restaurant was superb and the service too. I would definitely return if I was to visit Ilfracombe or this area again. "
