Meet friends and share a few drinks at this plaza in the center of Santa Marta, where you’ll find restaurants, bars and vendors selling snacks.

Parque de los Novios is a spacious plaza next to Santa Marta’s most historic monuments. It is a popular meeting point for couples. In fact, the name translates as the Park of Lovers. Travelers and locals gather in this plaza to watch the sun go down and enjoy a few drinks in the evening. It is a shining beacon of the city’s nightlife and has a relaxed and secure ambiance. Look for a statue surrounded by small fountains erupting from the plaza’s red-brick surface. Take a leisurely stroll around the pedestrianized park in the afternoon without worrying about traffic.

The plaza is a hub of activity and entertainment. Let the kids play in the fountains around the statue. Prepare yourself for a random burst of salsa dancing or a fire performance by a street performer.

Try street food from the local vendors walking around the park. Use the zone to meet up with the rest of your family or friends before heading to one of the bars and restaurants surrounding it. Many of the restaurants’ outdoor seating areas spill into the park, which generates a communal atmosphere.

Admire the white central bandstand. At night, it glows bright green. Listen to musicians playing songs from local genres, such as Vallenato. This is an upbeat accordion-themed genre with origins in the Caribbean and Africa. Haggle with merchants selling souvenirs, fabric and other items.

The park was built on a dried-up lake. It was originally known as Santander Park, in tribute to the military general and one-time president of Gran Colombia, Francisco José de Paula Santander.

The Parque de los Novios is located a few blocks inland from the beach in the center of Santa Marta. It is close to the Historic Center of the city. Look for many interesting attractions around the park, including churches, colonial buildings and the International Marina. Simón Bolívar Park is several blocks north of the area.
