The seat of the eclectic art scene throughout the 1920s, the Orlando Museum of Art has been the epicentre of Florida’s art and cultural life for almost 90 years. A welcome break from the busy theme parks and entertainment resorts, the museum covers a wide variety of priceless art, from American to international, and a whole range of exhibits that kids will appreciate.
Step back in time and view the fascinating pre-colonial Aztec masks, Mayan figurines and gold, silver and jade artefacts. Ranging from 18th Century American art to and assortment of African textiles, masks and beadwork, the museum’s permanent collection offers a priceless array of exhibits to appeal to visitors of all ages.
Check out the Museum’s schedule before visiting, as the gallery frequently exhibits the work of some of America’s latest artists. Ranging from glass sculpture, fine art antiques, ceramics and photography, these exhibitions are not to be missed. For art fanatics and budding artists, arrange for an “Art Getaway” itinerary, where you will have the chance to visit local theatres, festivals, art schools and historic landmarks.
There is plenty to keep children entertained at the museum’s spring and summer art camps, which includes a diverse array of creative activities. Ranging from cartoon drawing, pottery, puppet making to landscape painting and interior design, activities are suitable for all ages.
