Ojima Komatsugawa Park is both a picturesque recreation area with a focus on sports and an evacuation center for use in the event of a natural disaster. Its range of sports fields, plazas and woodland have made the park a popular family destination. Arrive in spring to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom, turning the park light pink with their delicate petals.
Cook a meal with your family in the barbeque area on a sunny day. Join the joggers along the grassy open fields of the park. It has a baseball field with three diamonds as well as a soccer pitch and several tennis courts.
Ascend the hill of the Wind Field for an excellent view of the Arakawa River, the Komatsugawa River and the nearby skyscrapers. Bring food and drinks for a picnic on the adjacent Seasonal Field and Gathering Field. The site has a wide array of plants, with silk trees, round leaf holly and kousa dogwood among the highlights.
In the park’s southeastern corner is the fun and innovative children’s playground. Let your little ones clamber over the curved frames and webs of this geometric maze. Relax on the green banks of the narrow Kyunaka River that flows through the center of the grounds. Connecting the park’s two sides is the stylish pedestrian Momijio Bridge.
Note that the park was designed to help the community when natural disasters strike. It could potentially serve as an evacuation site for up to 20 million people.
Ojima Komatsugawa Park is on the eastern side of the Kōtō district, on the border with the Edogawa Ward. It stands beside the Arakawa River and is a short walk north of the Higashi-Ojima station. If you drive, you can leave your car in the parking lot for a fee. Visit some of the neighboring attractions, such as the Nakagawa Funabansho Museum, the Kyu Komatsugawa Kōmon and the Komatsugawa Bridge.
