This theater is the gold-and-red velvet crown of Ohio, featuring exciting musicals and concerts on its lavish Baroque-style stage.

Ohio Theatre is truly a landmark attraction in downtown Columbus. Narrowly escaping demolition in 1969, the historic movie palace was restored to its former late-20s splendor and transformed into a grand performing arts center and state treasure. The theater’s extravagant Spanish Baroque-style interior now houses a modern performance space fit to show headlining tour acts and classic Columbus favorites. Spectacular symphony orchestras, contemporary dance, musicals and touring entertainers fill the 2,791-seat theater with excited audience members throughout the year.

See one of the many reputable performance groups that call this theater home, such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, BalletMet and the Broadway Series. Join the long-running Summer Movie Series and catch a Hollywood classic or new feature film. Performances of all genres from all over the world make their first stop in the state at the “Official Theatre for the State of Ohio,” due to its state-of-the-art stage, quality acoustics and distinctive lavish red velvet and gilt decorations.

This magnificent theater and its quality performances promise a memorable night so treat yourself and loved ones to an exciting evening out in downtown Columbus. You’ll find many restaurants and cafés in the immediate vicinity, especially on nearby High Street and Gay Street. On performance nights, the area is filled with theatergoers, so experience the atmosphere over dinner and some wine before heading to the show. Afterward, grab a drink or two in one of the chic downtown bars and swap reviews of the night’s performance.

Ohio Theatre is centrally located in downtown Columbus, half a block from the main South Third Street. Several major bus stops are within a short walk of the theater and service runs until approximately midnight each night. Taxis frequent the area, but if you plan to have a late night, make sure you book your cab in advance. Check the theater’s website to see what performances are playing during your stay in Columbus.
