Visit an elegant art museum where you will see a vast collection of international art spanning numerous centuries, cultures and countries.

Discover fantastic art from all over the world when you visit Museum Rietberg. Spread out on two floors of a 19th-century neoclassical villa and two added subterranean levels is a fascinating collection of non-European art. The thousands of objects include centuries-old Chinese ceramics, wooden carvings from Africa and bronze sculptures from the Himalayas.

Start your artistic journey of discovery on the villa’s first level, home to some of the permanent collection galleries. View works of art from India, Pakistan, Indonesia and other parts of the world. See ceramics from ancient Peru and ritual objects from Papua New Guinea. Look at Buddhist art from the Himalayas, such as bronze sculptures from the 11th to 18th centuries. Among the many other highlights on this museum level are Swiss masks from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and 18th-century miniature paintings from northern India. On the second floor are Islamic and Indian pieces and artworks from the ancient Near East.

The museum’s two subterranean levels offer even more. The first level houses additional permanent collection galleries. Study 17th-century bronzes from Nigeria and masks from the Ivory Coast and the grasslands of Cameroon. While you are in the China section look at Buddhist sculptures that date back to the 6th and 7th centuries. Once you have explored the permanent collections, view the temporary exhibition gallery on the second underground level.

Museum Rietberg is located south of central Zürich inside Rieterpark, the largest park in the city. Arrive by taxi or public transportation, as the museum’s car parking is limited to a few disabled parking bays. The museum is open daily except Mondays and select public holidays. Two separate admission prices are charged depending on whether you want to see the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions or just the collection. Children under the age of 16 can browse all the exhibits for free.

After your visit, enjoy a walk through the landscaped grounds of the park.
