Appreciate an intriguing homage to Mexico’s most famous artistic couple at this fascinating museum set in the house studios where they once worked and resided.

The Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo is a museum set in the former residence and workplace of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, two of Mexico’s most influential artists. See easel works, photographs, books and period items belonging to the artists. Learn about the careers of two of the most important cultural icons of the 20th century as you explore this intimate museum.

Recognized for her prominent eyebrows and artistic talent, Frida Kahlo was immortalized in the 2002 movie Frida. Kahlo and Rivera lived in the residence from 1934 to 1940 alongside architect and friend Juan O’Gorman, who designed the houses. Admire the design of the two buildings, which mix typical Mexican architecture with functionalist design. One of the first functionalist structures to be built in Latin American, the residence’s innovative design was controversial when it was first constructed.

Hear how Diego Rivera produced around 3,000 works in the white studio. Imagine this master at work as you view his brushes and crafts. Check out his collection of pre-Hispanic relics and personal items.

Frida Kahlo lived and worked in the blue house. It was here that she created Lo que el agua me dió (What the Water Gave Me),El ojo avizor (The Lookout)andEl difunto Dimas (The Deceased Dimas), among other works. Marvel at her impressive paintings on display.

Take a free guided tour of the museum to learn more about this unique residence and the artists who lived here. Find out if any temporary exhibitions are taking place during your visit.

There is a fee to enter the museum, which is open Tuesday to Saturday or visit for free on Sundays. Note that there is an additional fee for taking photos. The Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo is in the southern part of the city, where it’s easily accessible by bus. Drive southwest for 9 miles (15 kilometers) to get to the museum from the city center.

Enjoy this interesting perspective into the lives of these iconic Mexican artists.
