Montclair Art Museum (MAM) is a historic gallery with a focus on American, Native American and contemporary art. It first opened in 1914 and now holds more than 12,000 works of art. Take a tour of this important gallery for a glimpse of its intriguing sculptures, photographs, paintings and prints.
Admire the imposing columns and strong, white pediment of the building’s façade. In front of this neoclassical structure is a circular lawn containing the bronze statue by famous sculptor Hermon Atkins MacNeil. Go to a Free First Thursday Nights occasion for live music, tours and workshops from October through June. Attend one of the many events held throughout the year, including art-themed wine tastings, art-house movie screenings and in-depth analyses of particular styles.
The gallery and store open from Wednesday through Sunday from noon until late afternoon. There is an entry fee, with discounts for seniors and students. Children enter for free.
The Montclair Art Museum is in the central part of Montclair in northern New Jersey. Take a bus to a nearby stop or ride the train to Walnut Street Station, a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) walk east from the museum.
