Arrived with a concierge mumbling something about he needs to take our bags. Being half deaf I couldn’t hear him. He wrapped some tags around our bags and was walking away with them when I had no idea what was happening. I asked him and found out he was storing them as the room wasn’t ready, I had to ask him to slow down as I neeeded something out of my bag first. All happened so quickly I was gobsmacked and so put out. When our room was ready I then went to ask reception for my bags back and saw a man in Novotel uniform and asked him as I could see the reception staff were busy. The coloured lady not only told the member of staff off but myself. I’m sorry but I do not take kindly to being spoken to like that. I’ve been staying at that hotel in Manchester for over 20yrs on and off every time I visit the theatre and never in all of those years have I had that kind of treatment off of any of the staff. They have always been extremely polite. I’ve never, ever had to put a bad review in about the hotel either but I feel it’s important I do on this occasion as no one should be treated like a second class citizen especially in their own country. Very, very disappointed with the check in procedure, the whole experience has really put me off ever staying there again as the service has become like a Travelodge, had I wanted that service I would have booked into the travelodge over the road. I do not expect to pay a premium rate fee for a room to get spoken to the way I did. Retrain

Did what was needed. No complaints. Manchester as a city is getting a bit rougher though. Still some nice bars and eateries in ththe city and walkable within 10-15 minutes.

Stayed overnight for shopping and grand-daughters athletic uk youth championship nearby.Reception staff lovely and welcoming,arrived early prior to check-in time,luggage stored safely whilst we were able to explore the city shopping.Room lovely some concern re bathroom/toilet privacy but soon realised press button frosted glass!no problem.Tea/coffee and coffee machine in room,lovely toiletries,mattress a little on the firm side,air con very noisy,even when turned off constant hum,think it may be generators or aircon noise from other rooms,thankfully I had usb fan with us and earplugs.My usb fan extremely quiet as use constantly at home.Shower good and powerful didn’t use rainfall one but nice it was available.Free safe and fridge with two cans water,brilliant for early/late cup of tea with the availability to store fresh milk.Had couple drinks in bar area,waiter service very nice.Overall lovely stay.
