The Lago Martiánez Swimming Pools are a complex of stylish salt-water bathing pools with floating islands. By day, it’s a chic swimming complex complete with bars and restaurants, while at night, the energy rises to a whole new level as visitors flock to its underground casino. Rest on a floating island, swim in pools and admire the sea views in this popular park.
These pools are one of the main attractions in Puerto de la Cruz. They were designed by renowned Canarian architect César Manrique, who created structures that were complementary to the natural landscapes of the islands. The seven lidos first opened in 1971 and have since undergone several renovations.
Spend the entire day sunbathing, swimming and relaxing in the pools, which are filled with filtered salt water from the ocean. Tall palm trees and umbrellas provide shade and there are sun loungers to lie on. Walk along the seawall, look out to the vast sea and try to spot small fish, crabs and other sea creatures under the surface.
Laze the day away in the large central lake and take turns resting on the five floating islands. The biggest of the five has a spectacular water feature that lights up like an erupting volcano at night. There are also shallow pools where children can safely splash about. Stop by a restaurant for a meal or cool off with a drink from a bar or kiosk.
In the evening, the pools are illuminated with colorful lights and the large central island transforms into the entrance to the casino, which is located underneath the lake. Try your luck at a game of blackjack or just enjoy the glamorous ambiance.
The Lago Martiánez Swimming Pools are open year-round and restrooms and showers are located on the site. There is a fee to enter and an additional fee to use the whirlpool. Choose from single, 15- or 30-day passes. The best way to get to the complex is by car. The pools are approximately 20 minutes from the Tenerife North Airport.
