With a gift shop, café and audiovisual presentation, this informative center serves as the perfect base before exploration of the volcanic park.

Situated in a charming wooden building surrounded by mountains, the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is one of the main activity hubs in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Its exhibits provide insights into the park’s geology and natural history. Spend a few hours learning about the region in this informative and relaxing attraction.

Enjoy snacks and refreshments in the quaint café to take a break from hiking through the park. You can also bring your own meal to heat in the dining area’s microwave. Chat with staff and rangers about the geological wonders of the park and get information to plan your trips.

Consider embarking on a ranger-led tour for a comprehensive exploration of the park’s terrain. A 20-minute movie provides a window into the natural history of the region.

Browse the souvenirs and locally made arts and crafts in Lassen Café and Gift. Venture next door for the Lassen Association Bookstore, which contains trail guides, brochures and books, as well as maps of the area. Get your national park passport stamped here.

Enjoy the view of the building, whose green sloping roof and wooden base harmonize well with the surroundings. Rising high in the background are the park’s iconic volcanic peaks. The center’s name comes from the Mountain Maidu term for Snow Mountain, which refers to Lassen Peak.

Note that the site opens daily from morning until late afternoon, with closures on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. It may also close during periods of heavy snowfall. Use the restrooms and recycle your litter in appropriate trash cans. The center is a gathering point for groups snowshoeing or skiing into the park when the scenic highway closes for the winter.

The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is just 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of Mill Creek in Lassen Volcanic National Park. The drive to the center, which is near the park’s southwestern entrance, should take about 20 minutes. See sights such as Sulphur Works, Mount Conard and Brokeoff Mountain in the area.
