From Dickensian plays to stand-up comedy shows, music documentaries and children’s workshops, this theater has a varied year-round program of events.

Hull Truck Theatre is an integral part of Hull’s performing arts culture and entertainment scene. Set at the edge of the atmospheric Hull Old Town, Hull Truck Theater hosts innovative performances by the resident and touring theater companies.

A local, out-of-work actor established the theater and its in-house Hull Truck Theatre Company in 1971. The company put on plays that challenged the social and political life of Hull in addition to anarchic shows performed by child actors. The theater got its first home in a converted church in 1983 and moved to its present location in 2006. It has received multiple accolades such as Olivier Awards and Los Angeles Critics’ Circle Awards.

The Main House has a seating capacity of 429 and seating on three sides of the stage creates an intimate bond between the actors and audience. A state-of-the-art infrared hearing system enriches the experience for visitors with impaired hearing. Laugh out loud at the jokes of stand-up comedians, enjoy contemporary dramas and interpretations of Shakespearean classics. Pantomimes and hit Broadway musicals provide fun for all ages.

Complementing the main theater is the 135-capacity Studio Theatre. During the Doc’n Roll Film Festival you can watch screenings of films that retrace the life of musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald and Eric Clapton. Watch live broadcasts of performances at the Royal Shakespeare Company theater in Stratford-upon-Avon. Children will have fun at participation workshops and free arts and crafts events.

You’ll find the venue located a 2-minute walk from Hull Paragon Interchange bus and railway station. Metered parking is possible at the adjacent St. Stephen’s Shopping Centre. Other attractions in Hull Old Town are within comfortable walking distance. Among them is Ferens Art Gallery, Hull Maritime Museum and the Streetlife Museum.

Events take place year round at Hull Truck Theatre. Tickets are available to purchase via the attraction’s official website. You can also visit the box office, which is open on performance days and from Monday to Saturday on non-performance days.
