Ryokans in Hokkaido Prefecture

"Our family stayed over for a night at the hotel to visit Daisetsuzan. Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet. Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). "Chalet Ivy Jozankei went above and beyond our expectations. The deluxe room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed every details they had in the room, common area and restaurant. The staff were all super friendly and nice. We will definitely recommend Chalet Ivy to all of our friends and family. The dinner and breakfast meals were amazing. We had such an incredible time here that We didn’t want to leave! "

"Exceptional hospitality, food, and amenities - It's a highlight of our trip. When we arrived at property, almost entire staff greeted us on the street by the entrance. Kaiseki meals were wonderful. The second floor recreation room was a happy place to be -Zen garden view, delicious snacks, drinks, and late night soup... The rooms were clean and spacious. Onsen pools were nice, especially the roof top one. We look forward to our next trip there"

"Excellent onsen, good variety for both dinner and breakfast buffet. The only drawback for this hotel is far from the main tourist sites, not near train station but can be reached by bus. "

"This is a beautiful hotel with great views of the river and countryside. It is quiet and the rooms are very nice. I used the private baths with no waiting. The bar is a great whisky and wine bar. Complimentary ramen was very nice and filling. Other snacks are also given free. Staff were so friendly, and managed around my language barrier with ease and friendliness."

"Dated hotel, as are all the hotels in the area, but very well maintained. Staff were all superb and the food service was very efficient and tasty. Not Michelin starred, but neither is the cost. "

"Japanese standard room was very spacious, although a bit worn around the edges. The rooftop outdoor onsen had a spectacular view of the snowy mountains at sunset. The food offered in the standard half board option was ok, not great, very cafeteria like. If you're passing thru the area, it's a good option bc of the onsen, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again."

"This was the best hotel experience in our Hokkaido trip! Service was top-notched and the staff was treated you with genuine care, give us home feelings and very patient even if we can’t speak Japanese. Food was freshly and delicious prepared in course for both dinner and breakfast. Private onsen is well-maintained. Definitely will stay again! "
