A green oasis full of colourful flowers, shady trees and thousands of orchids awaits at these expertly maintained gardens in Hervey Bay.

Explore Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens to see an astonishing variety of plants and discover tranquil glades. Relax with a book in a secluded spot or participate in one of the fascinating public demonstrations that range from beekeeping to bonsai growing.

Visit the Orchid House and marvel at the beauty of these delicate blooms. Passionate volunteers tend to this amazing collection of approximately 20,000 orchid plants from all over the world. Take a seat at the back patio of this lush greenhouse and enjoy the views over a cup of tea or coffee.

Familiarise yourself with some traditional Aboriginal foods in the Bush Tucker Garden. This collection of food plants was planted in collaboration with the Butchella people, who are the traditional custodians of this region. Check out the paintings that are displayed in the garden and read the informative signs to find out how these plants were used.

Experience the tranquillity of the formal Chinese Garden. Enter through the signature moon-shaped gate and stop to appreciate the soothing water features. The building materials for the garden’s Chinese-style architecture were sourced from Leshan, which is Hervey Bay’s sister city in China.

Marvel at the open-air Bush Chapel, which is walled with rainforest trees. Take a moment to reflect in the serene building. You might also glimpse a wedding taking place at this popular chapel.

Join a workshop run by expert gardeners and learn about a range of topics, from native bees to vegetable growing. Find dates and times for events listed in local newspapers or online.

Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens is a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. Parking is available in the surrounding streets. The garden is free to enter however, there is a small admission fee for the Orchid House.
