Hellerup features luxury houses, expensive cars and impressive yachts alongside stunning countryside and sea, child-friendly activities and Danish history.

Most Danes associate Hellerup with Denmark’s wealthy, but a stay here offers more than miles of luxury houses along the water’s edge. This town in northern Zealand is also home to the exciting science museum Experimentarium, the child-friendly beach at Hellerup Strand and Mindelunden i Ryvangen – a memorial park in honour of the Danish resistance during WWII.

Strandvejen is regarded as Hellerup’s high street. Take in the impressive houses that look out over the Øresund –if you’re lucky, you may spot one of the many famous actors or politicians who live here. Explore the numerous upmarket shops along Strandvejen that stock a wide range of exclusive brands along with more affordable goods.

Proceed from Strandvejen to Hellerup’s shopping centre, Waterfront Shopping, featuring a range of shops, restaurants, cafés and sits next to the Experimentarium, a great place for fun and learning for all ages. Take a walk through Tuborg Havnepark to see inspiring modern architecture, including the famous Tuborgflaske, a 26-metre-high sculpture that represents a unique landmark for Hellerup and the park.

Slightly to the north of Waterfront Shopping is Hellerup Strand. This 100-metre-long strip of sand is packed in the summer, with bathers enjoying the sun just a few metres from the nearby apartment block. The beach is famous for being particularly child-friendly with smooth white sand, clear, inviting water and few stones. A visit to the beach on a hot summer’s day should include a call into Jørgen Lydolphs Isbar, said to sell Denmark’s biggest ice cream cornet.

Include a visit to the Mindelunden i Ryvangen for a little piece of Denmark’s history while in Hellerup. This is where Danish resistance fighters were executed and buried, and is now a monument to their honour. A special ceremony is held here on 4 May to celebrate the liberation of Denmark from German occupation by British troops.

Take a holiday in Hellerup to experience the charm of one of Denmark’s most affluent towns, which ticks every box for a wonderful holiday just a stone’s throw from Copenhagen.
