Golden Beach

The first manmade stretch of sand in Hong Kong, Golden Beach is a perfect place to soak up the sun, take a dip or enjoy a leisurely stroll.

There are over 300 islands that make up Hong Kong, and many of these offer pristine beaches where you can spend some time in the sun. Golden Beach is one of the most famous the largest beach in Tuen Mun in Hong Kong’s New Territories region, a 545-metre strip covering an area of over 75 hectares. Walk along its fine sand which was imported from China’s Hainan Island, and enjoy the views across the water and towards Lantau Island.

A popular destination for families, with its clean water and beautiful sand, this is a great place for a swim or a spot of sunbathing. Among the facilities on offer at Golden Beach are showers, changing rooms, toilets, a snack shop, and lifeguards on location all through the year. There are shaded benches along the beach where you can stop off out on the sun at the peak of the day. During the week and in the cooler months the beach becomes less crowded.

The promenade that runs parallel to the beach for about 480 metres, bordered by tropical trees and plants, leads to Dolphin Square, where you’ll find a recognisable statue of three golden dolphins.

The subtropical climate of Hong Kong makes Golden Beach a popular spot throughout the year. While temperatures can be very high in summer, you’ll be able to enjoy milder temperatures from September through to January. The typhoon season arrives in May and runs until November.

Golden Beach makes up part of the Gold Coast tourist resort, along with a marina club and a shopping mall. Outside of the mall on weekends and public holidays you can go and visit the Montmartre art fair. Here you’ll find scores of stalls with local arts and crafts on display. You can even try your hand at creating your own piece in one of the fair’s workshops.

Golden Beach is situated directly at the 18.5 kilometre milestone of Castle Peak Road, and is easily reached by public transport, with the destination served by several bus lines.
