Visit the Enzian Theater to experience a memorable night at the movies, watching an independent or foreign film. The non-for-profit art house plays cult classics, first-run features and occasionally hosts live music performances.
The single-screen cinema’s auditorium resembles a large dining room. Instead of traditional rows of chairs, there are couches, dining tables and single seats. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and once you have found your place, order some food and drink. A server will come to you, and on the menu are appetizers, desserts and traditional movie snacks.
During your vacation, attend some of Enzian's regular events. On the second and last Tuesday of the month, grab a seat for a cult classic from previous decades. Spread out your blanket and enjoy a picnic at the Wednesday Night Pitcher Show. This free movie event takes place on Enzian's lawn every week.
There are more free outdoor screenings at the Popcorn Flicks series. On the second Thursday of each month you can watch an evening showing of a classic family film. They are presented in Central Park in the nearby city of Winter Park.
Throughout the year, the theater hosts several independent film festivals. The most prominent is the Florida Film Festival, held every spring. This Oscar-qualifying event screens independent and foreign films and the winners of two of the categories automatically qualify for the following year’s Academy Awards.
If you are in the area during July and August, give your children the opportunity to get behind the camera at KidFest Young Filmmakers' Summer Camp. Among the other prestigious annual events are the Central Florida Jewish Film Festival and Brouhaha that showcases locally produced films and videos.
