Edmund Klein Park

Leave the historical attractions and upmarket shopping districts behind and relax on the groomed lawns of this park, which has a children’s adventure playground, walking trails and wooded gardens.

Spend some time enjoying the picturesque Edmund Klein Park (Parc Edmund Klein). It is located in the southern region of the larger Municipal Park, which curves around the western edge of the Old Town. Edmund Klein Park features areas designed by the French landscape architect Édouard André.

The park is great for walking along paved pathways that border large, open lawns. The tall trees offer a welcome shade from the sun during the summer months. The peaceful setting makes it a popular location for joggers and people practicing yoga.

Children will love the pirate ship-themed climbing frame, slides and swings of the adventure playground. Benches around the playground let you sit comfortably while you watch your children play. Adjacent to here is a small kiosk that sells drinks and snacks.

Across the street from the playground is the ruins of Fort Lambert. This formed part of the fortifications of the Fortress of Luxembourg, a landmark that made way for the modern city in the mid-19th century. The casemates visible are from the fort’s 17th-century origins.

Explore the northern section of Municipal Park, where you’ll find more gardens and walkways. Villa Vauban is a 19th-century mansion home to the Musée d’Art de la Ville de Luxembourg. Here you can browse works by the Old Masters and see relics of the city’s defensive system. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Monday and entrance is free on Friday nights.

Kinnekswiss Park, in the northernmost corner, is a popular recreation area. Crowds gather on warm days to set up picnics and play soccer and volleyball. Cultural events also take place here such as the Kinnekswiss Goes Pop open-air music festival.

Edmund Klein Park is just a 10-minute walk west of the city’s main square, Place Guillaume II. Public buses stop at various locations around Municipal Park. Parking is available for a fee on the streets and in a lot beneath Fort Lambert.
