Valby
Valby offers a wide range of things to do, including famous film locations to explore.

A holiday in Valby has a lot to offer, whether you are accompanied by the kids or not. A visit to the local “swimming stadium” means a couple of hours’ relaxation in the sauna or spa, whizzing down the water slide or splashing through the waterfall with the kids. You’ll love Valbyparken, home to the biggest nature playground in the whole of Denmark. There are also guided tours around Carlsberg, with plenty of beer tastings to round off an afternoon.

Valby is actually a suburb of Copenhagen and is only a few miles away from the city centre. Back in the 1600s, there were only a few houses and farms here, and everyone competing with each other on Amager to sell their crops in the big city.

If you’re a fan of classic Danish films, a weekend break in Valby is ideal, as it is home to locations from a number of the most well-known Danish films, including Midt om natten, Olsen Banden and Matador. To learn more about the heyday of film-making here, Nordisk Film run guided studio tour.

Valby is also known for the heights of Valby Bakke, immortalised by the Peter Sommers song of the same name. At the top of the hill is Copenhagen Zoo’s tower, rising 130 feet into the air. Not far away is the Italian-style Jesuskirken Church, something completely different from traditional Danish churches with their whitewashed interiors.

There are excellent train and road links to Valby, meaning quick, easy access either by public transport or car. Copenhagen Airport is only about 8 miles away, making access by air and bus another option for international visitors.

A visit to Valby not only means a wealth of things to do, but the bright lights of the capital within walking distance will allow you to visit many other nearby attractions, such as Amalienborg, shopping on Strøget or even dining at one of the city’s renowned Michelin-starred restaurants.
