Discover 6,000 years of art, including work by 19th-century European masters, in this free gallery in scenic Eden Park.

Cincinnati Art Museum displays 60,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years, including European masterpieces and works from talented local artists. National and international traveling exhibits add hundreds of other valuable art objects and historic artifacts to the mix.

Since opening in 1886, the Cincinnati Art Museum’s collection has gathered significant works from all over the globe. You’ll find fascinating ancient artifacts from other cultures, and a century’s worth of art from Cincinnati. The modern Cincinnati Wing features works from the city’s industrial and cultural “Golden Age,” from 1830 to 1900. There’s also a display of pottery from the nearby world-famous Rockwood Studio.

The collection of works by old European masters contains paintings by greats such as Hals, Rubens and Gainsborough. See famous works by Picasso, Miró and Renoir. Renowned American artists are also represented in the museum’s collection, including Rothko and Hopper. Asian paintings and North American photographs from the 1970s and ’80s are also on display.

Ancient art is on display in the collections from Egypt, Greece and Rome. See Arabic art from Jordan from the first century. The Art of the Americas collection features a range of Native American artifacts.

Take a tour to hear the stories behind the museum’s highlights. Separate tours for families, called ARTventures, run on weekends.

Stop for a break in the courtyard, where a café is open daily. Purchase a meal to get a refund on your parking ticket.

The Cincinnati Art Museum is closed on Mondays. Admission is free, although there is a small charge for parking. Eden Park is a 10-minute drive east from downtown Cincinnati, and is serviced by Metro bus No. 1. Combine your visit with a trip to Krohn’s Conservatory, the nearby art deco–style greenhouse.
