Attend the cultural events and art exhibits in this scenic museum and gardens and learn about its wealthy former residents.

The Borda Garden is a museum in the former residence of Cuernavaca’s most affluent and aristocratic families. Today, the complex showcases stunning landscape gardens, intriguing art exhibits and cultural events. Visit the complex on a sunny day and enjoy a picnic on the picturesque grounds.

The museum and garden site is managed by the city’s ministry of culture. Attend some of the cultural events that take place here. Browse the displays at various temporary exhibits held in the gardens. These have included such events as international photo collections and exhibits on the Mexican Day of the Dead.

Watch theatrical performances, dance recitals and music concerts. Attend important events and political rallies at this site, which holds a significant place in the hearts of locals.

Wander with your family through the pleasant gardens and sit by the pond or rent a rowboat to skim the surface. Enjoy the serene ambiance here and forget the bustling city outside the garden walls. Among the highlights is the Baroque Magna Fountain on a narrow path surrounded by dense vegetation.

Encounter a range of native plants and foreign species. Enter the smaller botanical garden, where you will likely find lizards, squirrels and bats among the floral arrangements. Relax with a meal at the site’s restaurant or enjoy snacks at the café.

Admire the building that has housed wealthy families from its inception in the 18th century. It takes its name from its builder and first resident, Don José de la Borda. The house later became the summer residence of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico.

There is a fee to enter with discounts for students and Mexican seniors. Sundays have free entry to the complex. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from morning until early evening.

Borda Garden lies on the western flank of the historic center of Cuernavaca. Park your car in the Borda Garden lot on the east side. Visit some of the other attractions in the area, such as the Cuernavaca City Museum, the Cuernavaca Cathedral and the Museum of Contemporary Indigenous Art.
