Upon arrival, we embarked on a cruise to explore this wonderful place, with lunch on board. After lunch, we continue to sail, admiring the thousands of islands and islets surrounded by greenery, with surprising shapes and sizes. We visit islands such as the Turtle and the Head of Man. The temple complex covers 81 hectares, comparable in extent to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. The well-known five towers are part of the Cambodian flag. They represent the 5 peaks of Meru, the walls surrounding them, are the mountains and the valley surrounding them, the ocean. We look at this 12th century work of art, considered among historians to be the first example of classic Khmer architecture and art, while enjoying its beautiful sunset – an excellent panorama to end the day. Then, we will visit the Hindu temple Banteay Samre, dedicated to Shivah, with beautiful reliefs narrating scenes of Ramayana. Afterwards, we will head to Banteay Srei, known as the “Citadel of Women”. Then, we will visit an opium museum to learn about the history of this plant in the region.
