Tikal National Park is the most excavated (Mayan?) archaeological site in Central America and one of the most excavated (archaeological) sites in the world. It covers some 57,600 hectares of wetlands and forests and encompasses architectural remains of the Mayan civilization dating from 600 BC to 900 AD. Tikal is the only natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage site in Central America and one of few in the world with both designations. As such, Tikal is considered one of the top 20 tourist sites in the world and a must-see during your visit to Guatemala. ITINERARY 8:00 a.m. – After you cross the Belize border we will meet you outside to pick you up. 10:00 a.m. – We arrive at Tikal National Park and begin our walk through the park visiting the most impressive sites. 2:00 p.m. – The tour ends at the Tikal parking lot and we’ll head out to eat lunch at a restaurant near the park. 4:00 p.m. – We arrive back at the Belize border where you will go through customs again and then can drive back to your hotel in Belize. ADMISSIONS & TICKETS You will have to buy your entrance tickets ahead of time using your government-issued ID (Guatemalans) or passport (foreigners). You will need to purchase a general admission entrance ticket, valid from 6a.m.-6: p.m. (Q.25 for locals and Q.150 for foreigners per person). Kids under 10 years old are free. Museum tickets are sold separately and must be purchased in advance (Q.30 per person). Tickets are valid for both museums. Tickets are sold at any Banrural Bank and at the main entrance of the park. The Banrural Bank (in Santa Elena ) is open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the supermarkets. The park is open from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. We can also buy tickets for you ahead of time and then you can pay us back when meeting. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Only cash in the local currency is accepted for entrance tickets (no debit or credit cards). There is no ATM in Tikal, so please withdraw enough cash. AT THE BORDER If you rented a car and drove to the border between Belize and Guatemala, leave it at the parking lot (the only one there) so you don’t have to do 45 minutes of paperwork. It’s a safe spot where they have guards and security cameras. Sometimes they charge $2.50 USD to leave your car parked there. As you go through Belize customs, they charge $20.00 USD to leave the country (but not to enter the country). Pay with cash. Before you exit Belize customs, ensure that your passport is stamped. As you leave customs, you will see us waiting for you with your name on a sign. We will take you to Guatemalan customs stamp where your passport will be stamped again. There is not an entrance or exit fee at the border.  Before we leave, withdraw money from the ATM for your Tikal tickets, lunch, and souvenir, etc. The debit or credit card you use should have a security chip.
