Activity itinerary

Amsterdam Food Tours (Pass by)
On this tour we will lead you around three Amsterdam neighborhoods that were constructed in the early 17th century and are part of the city centre: the Jordaan, the canal district and the Haarlemmerbuurt. Besides treating you to delicious Dutch food, we will tell you all about the history of the city of Amsterdam and its typical architecture with for example the leaning houses. Or why Amsterdam has so many canals (twice as many as Venice for example) and when and why the Jordaan was built. These are just a few examples and of course your guide will answer any possible question you might have. Below you will find the food stops and tastings for Tuesday through Friday. On other days, some stops are different due to their opening days but the tastings are more or less the same. There is no fish tasting on Sundays and Mondays. Let us know if you have any questions about this!

Meet your guide and fellow participants at Amsterdam's finest Dutch 'bruine kroeg' (brown pub) and enjoy the famous homemade apple pie with a drink to your liking just like Bill Clinton once did here. The ideal way to start the tour in a relaxed way, get to know each other and hear fascinating stories such as why the Dutch don't consider apple pie a dessert and why they like to eat it in a brown pub. And your guide also likes to tell you about the history of Amsterdam and the Jordaan neighborhood where the tour takes place.

Taste one of the most famous Dutch delicacies: Dutch herring. Learn why it was so important to Dutch history and the rise of the “Golden Age.” Taste for yourself why this is such a culinary gem, contrary to the cliché stories you may have heard. In addition, try the popular hot Dutch fish dish “kibbeling” (fried cod), and the special Dutch smoked eel. Both used to be poor man's food and are now considered a real specialty.
V.O.F. Butchery T.F.M. Louman
  • 15m
  • Admission ticket included
Visit one of Amsterdam's most famous butcher shops , located in the Jordaan since 1892 and owned by the Louman family for six generations. In this store you will get the real Jordaan feeling while tasting the best 'ossenworst'. This is a smoked raw beef sausage with oriental spices that was already made in the early 17th century by the Amsterdam kitchen maids as a luxury delicacy for the rich Amsterdam merchants. And that's not all because we will also let you taste a typical Dutch ham, pork sausage and salted beef.
Simz Exotic Food Indian & Surinaams Specialiteit
  • 20m
  • Admission ticket not included
With over 180 nationalities, Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. Many inhabitants have roots in Suriname, one of the former Dutch colonies and a country that is itself a melting pot of numerous nationalities around the world. Dutch cuisine is much influenced by Surinamese flavors and in Amsterdam you will find many Suriname eateries. We serve you a delicious Rendang sandwich with pickles and tell you about the Dutch colonial history in other countries such as Indonesia and South Africa.
't Goede Soet
  • 15m
  • Admission ticket included
Like herring and cheese, the stroopwafel is probably one of those Dutch delicacies you've heard of, and in Amsterdam there are all kinds of tourist stores where you can buy them for a lot of money and with all kinds of sweet and colorful dips. We'd rather take you to Mireille's store, which has been selling delicious, artisanal stroopwafels for over 25 years and which are delivered to her fresh from the bakery every day. Simply delicious and hassle-free, just the way the Dutch like it. And while we're there, we'd also like to let you taste a delicious bonbon with a typical Dutch filling, advocaat (egg custard with brandy).
Bourgondisch Lifestyle Amsterdam
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
We are super proud of all our wonderful food partners and friends who make and sell the most delicious Dutch delicacies. And we think Bourgondisch Lifestyle is an extra special location that we will take you to. Not because we have the exclusive right to use their special tasting room in a centuries old Amsterdam house but also because here you will find the top Dutch and international cheeses. Owner René and his team buy, mature and refine over 300 different cheeses and sell them to numerous top restaurants at home and abroad from their “cheese fortress” an early 20th century bunker outside Amsterdam. All of these cheeses are purely artisanal and come from small local producers. Taste four different Dutch cheeses (decent pieces, no mouse bites) including, of course, the Gouda cheese with a delicious wine and crackers.
Café Nieuw Amsterdam
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
End the tour at another special location, the “birthplace” of New York. In this former headquarters of the Dutch West India Company, the colony of New Amsterdam was governed that once began with the building of Fort Amsterdam on the island of Manhattan. Brooklyn, Wallstreet, Staten Island and many more places still refer directly to Dutch history in New York. We are happy to tell you all about it while enjoying the famous 'bitterballen' and a tasty drink such as a local Amsterdam beer or 'jenever', the predecessor of English gin.
