It's an early start with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel as you head straight to Angkor Wat for sunrise. Don’t forget your camera to snap an iconic sunrise at Angkor Wat photo that will make the early alarm call worth it. You’ll spend around 1.5 hours exploring Angkor Wat after sunrise, with your guide explaining the cultural importance of the ancient site. The enormous Buddhist temple is the largest religious monument in the world, and dates back to the 12th-century. Next, you’ll stop for a short break to enjoy a authentic breakfast at a local restaurant. Enjoy a real Cambodian breakfast of Khmer noodle soup with traditional desserts such as palm cake and steam rice dumplings with palm sugar. After breakfast, return to the jeep and continue your tour at the jungle temples of Ta Prohm and Ta Nei. Still in their original state the jungle is reclaiming the complex as plants, vines and huge roots take over the site. Fans of 2001 film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” will find the place familiar. Continue to Bayon Temple and its serene stone faces. With architecture significantly different to Angkor Wat, the temple has great photo opportunities at every turn. You’ll also visit the impressive Victory Gate of Angkor Thom. The stone structure was built by Jayavaram VII to protect the city from invading neighbours, and the gate has withstood the test of time. Before the jeep returns you to your hotel, you’ll stop at a local market in Siem Reap to see locals buying and selling produce, handicrafts and clothing. If you wish you can try Cambodian dishes such as sticky rice, cakes, fruits and egg noodles. If you are feeling adventurous why not try fried spiders and scorpion, common local snacks in south-east Asian markets.
