What you can expect

Delve into the traditional and cultural side of the island. Learn about wickerwork factories, enjoy a bird's-eye view atop one of Madeira’s highest peaks, admire curious triangle-shaped cottages, and wander through cobbled streets before treating your taste buds to an authentic local lunch.

Considered Madeira’s cultural capital and known as “the village of basket-makers,” Camacha’s charm resides in its wickerwork factories, where baskets of all sizes, hats, ornaments, and wine holders are manufactured. A scenic drive takes you to one of the highest peaks on the island, Pico Ariero, which rises 5,965 feet (1,818 m) up into the sky and offers you plenty of opportunities to snap the perfect picture.

Your next stop is the beautiful Ribeiro Frio (Cold River). Follow your guide on a leisurely hike along the levada (aqueduct) to the Balcões. Soak up the evergreen-forest landscape that surrounds you and listen as your guide explains the purpose of the levada's construction. The charming village of Santana is your next stop. Its characteristic triangle-shaped cottages have served the locals for centuries as stables and dwellings.

After a traditional lunch, your tour moves toward Machico—a historic town full of stories of pirates and the first Portuguese explorers. Stroll the tranquil streets before heading back to your hotel.
