Let's be honest, you can find wine tasting in every corner of Tbilisi, except that no one makes the effort to tell you about the wine itself, the vine, the PDO or the winemaker. You taste it, you like it or not, it doesn't matter. I do it differently, introducing you Georgia through it's best bevarge: Wine ! During my degustation, you travel around the country to end up with knowledge that you wouldn't have expected.
In this wine tasting, the aim is to discover Georgian wines and especially the clay jar vinification process known as qvevri. We begin with a brief introduction to Georgia. We continue with a tasting of 2 white wines. The first is vinified in the European style, while the second is made in the traditional Georgian way, in qvevri. The aim is to compare techniques and familiarize yourself with these new flavors. We finish with a comparative tasting of red wines, in the same way, a “classic” wine and a qvevri wine. As a bonus, we'll taste a rosé or a sweet wine, depending on what the wine merchant offers.
If you prefer focusing on one color, feel free to ask, it won't be a problem. I also would like to underline that Georgians are not greedy about wine so don't worry regarding the quantities.
Please pay attention that real georgian wines are not cheap that's why to organize a good degustation with an expert it's costly. However, you'll leave with a wealth of knowledge that will enable you to bring back fine wines and perfect your “Georgian” palate throughout your trip.
