What you can expect

Immerse yourself in Queensland's lush and life-filled World Heritage rainforest with a visit to a wildlife park, a jungle tour on an amphibious Duck, and an aboriginal Dreamtime Walk. Stroll Kuranda's markets and take the scenic route back to Cairns—literally—on the Kuranda Scenic Railway.

After you're picked up at your hotel, head into the verdant hills of the Wet Tropics World Heritage site. Grab a seat on an open-air amphibious Duck vehicle and ride to a tropical fruit orchard, breathing in the heady fragrance of ripe mangoes, lychees, pineapples, and jackfruit. Then splash into the tree-shaded waters of a jungle lake, watching for turtles as your guide discusses the rainforest's ancient plant life.

Indigenous guides greet you and lead you to a rainforest amphitheater. Take a seat as the didgeridoo begins to drone for the Pamagirri Corroboree dance performance, and then set out for a Dreamtime Walk—you can even try your hand at throwing a boomerang. Visit the Koala & Wildlife Park and see crocodiles, koalas, snakes, dingoes, the endangered Cassowary and Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo. Handfeed kangaroos and wallabies.

Spend the afternoon exploring the colorful, artsy markets of Kuranda and checking out the rainforest village's various attractions. Kuranda's Australian butterfly sanctuary is the largest butterfly aviary in the country, and home to vibrant species Green Cairns Birdwing.

Your day in the rainforest comes to a close with an unforgettable ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Wind through densely forested hillsides, past the tumbling cascade of Barron Falls, and over trestle bridges spanning deep ravines before your arrival back in Cairns.
