Overview

This tour starts from Gwangju Metropolitan City.
For tea-lovers and nature-lovers, this tour will be very enjoyable.
We will visit two major tea plantations in Boseong and Gangjin.
While Boseong is well-known for its green tea plantation and attracts many tourists every year, Gangjin tends to be off the beaten path for most foreign travellers. However, Gangjin has over 1,000-year history as a tea cultivated area, and it is the place where the first Korean tea brand was created.
In Boseong, we will visit Korea Tea Museum and Daehan Dawon which is the most popular tea farm in Korea. Here, we will experience Korean tea ceremony with green tea tasting and enjoy green tea Ice-cream. In Gangjin, we will visit Gangjin Dawon Tea plantation with the stunning background of Mt. Wolchulsan, and a private garden of Joseon Dynasty. We will also visit Baeg-un Tea House and taste its long-time tradition tea.
Don’t miss the nice local lunch too!

Lunch time! There are two choices for lunch. The first main dish is the grilled pork patties with green tea powder, which is the local specialty in Boseong. The second main dish is the steamed rice wrapped in a lotus leaf, and it is good for vegetarians.
Korea Tea Museum
  • 1h 15m
  • Admission ticket included
Korea tea museum was established to introduce the Korean tea culture and history in 2010. Visitors can view the whole process from cultivation to production of tea with graphic panels, images, and dioramas. There is a tea experience room, so we will learn how to prepare and drink tea in Korea through educational and hands-on experience.
Gangjin Dawon
  • 30m
Gangjin Tea Plantation is located at the foot of Mt. Wolchulsan and has been cultivated for green tea production since 1980 by 'Amorepacific (Osulloc)', a leading tea producer in Korea. But the history of tea culture in Gangjin is over 1,000 years as tea trees have been cultivated in many Buddhist temples around the mountain since Goryeo Dynasty. The tea produced in Gangjin has a strong scent and rarely tastes bitter. With rocks standing above Mt. Wolchulsan, Gangjin Tea Plantation creates a grand spectacle.
Baegundong Hermitage Garden
  • 45m
Baeg-un-dong Garden was established by Lee Damro (1627–1701), who carved 'Baeg-un-dong' into the rock next to the valley. This garden served as a cultural meeting place where scholars exchanged ideas and enjoyed the arts. It is also significant as a cradle of Korean tea culture. The hermitage harmoniously blends natural elements with human-made features in an ornate composition while preserving the original character of the forest.
Seongjeon-myeon
  • 50m
Baeg-un Tea House was established to honor the achievements of Lee Han-young, who created Korea’s first tea brand, Baegun Okpan Tea, in the 1920s. The tea culture history in this area, however, dates back to the 1800s. Jeong Yak-yong, one of the greatest scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, was known for his love of tea during his exile in Gangjin. The methods he used to make and enjoy tea have been passed down through one of his disciples, and Baeg-un Tea House continues this historical tradition. Visitors can taste the rice cake tea that Jeong Yak-yong cherished.
